SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 11

Authorizing the appointment of employees for the Senate for the
one thousand nine hundred ninety-three regular sixty-day
session of the seventy-first Legislature and payment of
their compensation.
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Clerk of the Senate, with the approval of the
President of the Senate, be and he is hereby authorized to
appoint employees to receive the per diem compensation, as herein
provided, during this regular sixty-day session of the seventy-
first Legislature, and any extension thereof as follows:
Nineteen Class I secretaries at a rate of thirty-eight
dollars to fifty dollars per diem;
Ten Class II secretaries at a rate of forty-three dollars to
sixty dollars per diem;
Seven Class III secretaries at a rate of forty-two to fifty-
two dollars per diem;
One Class IV secretary at a rate of forty dollars to
seventy-three dollars per diem;
One executive secretary to the Senate President at a rate of
ninety-six dollars per diem;
One administrative assistant to the Senate President at a
rate of eighty-two dollars per diem;
One secretary to the Senate President at a rate of fifty-
five dollars per diem;
One executive secretary to the chairman of the Committee on
Finance at a rate of ninety-six dollars per diem;
One administrative secretary to the Majority Leader at a
rate of fifty-seven dollars and fifty cents per diem;
One committee clerk to the Committee on the Judiciary at a
rate of forty-six dollars per diem;
One supply clerk at a rate of fifty dollars per diem;
Two assistants at a rate of thirty dollars to fifty dollars
per diem;
Thirteen legal counselors at a rate of one hundred thirty
dollars to one hundred ninety dollars per diem; assignments and
salaries to be determined by the President of the Senate;
One legal counselor to the Senate President at a rate of two
hundred ten dollars per diem;
One Topical Index and Bill Clerk to the Senate Clerk at a
rate of eighty dollars per diem;
Six proofreaders at a rate of forty-three dollars to fifty-
two dollars per diem;
One Journal Room supervisor at a rate of sixty dollars per
diem;
One assistant Journal Room supervisor at a rate of forty-
three dollars per diem;
Six Journal and Bill Room clerks at a rate of thirty dollars
to forty-three dollars per diem;
One Sergeant at Arms at a rate of forty-eight dollars perdiem; and an allowance for meals and expenses not to exceed
twenty-five dollars per diem;
One chief assistant Sergeant at Arms at a rate of
forty-seven dollars per diem;
Three assistants to the Sergeant at Arms at a rate of thirty
dollars to thirty-five dollars per diem;
One Doorkeeper at a rate of seventy-three dollars per diem;
One chief assistant Doorkeeper at a rate of forty-seven
dollars per diem;
Five assistant Doorkeepers at a rate of thirty dollars to
forty dollars per diem;
One information clerk at a rate of fifty dollars per diem
($25.00 per day paid by House of Delegates);
One messenger to the Senate Clerk and assistant page at a
rate of thirty-two dollars per diem;
Two assistant custodians at a rate of twenty-seven dollars
to thirty-three dollars per diem;
One head page at a rate of thirty-five dollars per diem;
Four pages at a rate of seventeen dollars per diem;
One recording system operator at a rate of fifty-nine
dollars per diem;
One duplicating machine operator at a rate of thirty-four
dollars per diem;
One assistant payroll clerk at a rate of fifty dollars to
sixty-eight dollars per diem;
Any person employed in any of the foregoing positions,
except in the position of page, for which the stated compensationis less than thirty-five dollars and fifty cents per diem, and
who resides more than fifty miles from the city of Charleston,
shall receive a travel and expense allowance of ten dollars per
day for each day that such employee actually travels and is
engaged in the performance of his official duties on which the
Senate actually meets.
The Clerk is further authorized to appoint such other
employees at such compensation as the Committee on Rules shall
from time to time authorize; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the appointment of salaried full-time
employees of the Senate for the year one thousand nine hundred
ninety-three and their compensation, at the following amounts per
month, for such periods of time as they are employed:

The Clerk of the Senate, with the written approval of the
President of the Senate, or the President of the Senate, is
hereby authorized to employ persons to fill the above positions,
at the compensation hereinabove set forth for each, and to make
adjustments in said compensation during the year. The President
of the Senate may employ personnel at such rates of compensation
as may be needed to fill any other positions.
